Hydraulic cylinders are basic machine components that provide power transmission in operations such as pressing, pushing, pulling and lifting. These systems make tasks that are difficult to do manually easier, especially in heavy industry, construction and manufacturing sectors. However, as with every mechanical system, they can wear out over time and may require disassembly and maintenance or repair.
Situations That Require Disassembly of a Hydraulic Cylinder
The hydraulic cylinder must be disassembled in the following cases:
If there is an oil leak in the cylinder If the piston rod is bent or has difficulty entering and exiting the cylinder If the cylinder body is cracked or damaged If the piston rod is broken If the piston seals need to be replaced Preparation for Disassembly
The following steps must be taken before starting the disassembly process:
Safety Precautions: The machine must be completely stopped, lockout/tagout procedures must be applied. Cleaning: The cylinder surface, connection points and hoses must be cleaned, and loose dirt and oil must be removed. Disassembly of Connections: Hydraulic hoses should be disassembled and their ends should be closed to prevent dirt from entering them. Disassembly of Cylinder: The cylinder should be separated from the equipment by removing the joint pins and fixed in a clean work area. Disassembly Methods
Hydraulic cylinders are disassembled differently depending on their structure. The two most common types are:
You can contact the HİDROMAN sales department to obtain the Hydraulic Cylinder Disassembly Machine required for disassembling Hydraulic Cylinders.
Disassembly of Gear Head Cylinders The adjustment screw or sleeve on the end cover is loosened. The piston rod is carefully pulled out of the cylinder housing. The piston nut is removed and the piston is separated. The end cover and seals are removed, checked and replaced if necessary. The cylinder and piston rod are examined for scratches or damage. If there is damage, honing or part replacement is performed. Disassembly of Wire Ring Cylinders The end cover is removed, the piston rod is fully extended before the wire ring is removed. The wire ring is rotated and taken out from the channel on the cylinder side wall. The packing, O-ring and other seal elements are removed. The piston rod and piston unit are carefully removed. The cylinder bore and internal part surfaces are checked and cleaned. Cleaning and Pre-Assembly Checks
All parts and seals should be cleaned with a petroleum-based solvent. Drying can be done with the help of an air compressor. Parts to be reused should be lubricated with clean hydraulic oil. Seals should definitely be replaced with new ones during assembly. Things to Pay Attention to
O-rings, piston nuts and metal rings should be checked for deformation. The cylinder body and piston rod should be examined for scratches, pitting or rust. If there is any damage, the relevant part should be replaced. The real source of the problem should be determined, otherwise the failure may reoccur. Hidroman is with you for professional support
